Apply online from October 12

Online applications for admission to the first batch of Sreenarayanaguru Open University, headquartered at Kureepuzha in Kollam, could be submitted from October 12 to November 15.

In the first stage, five bachelor’s programs and 2 master’s programs will be offered at the university. They are:

1. BA Language and Literature – Malayalam, English, Hindi, Sanskrit, Arabic. These three-year courses would have six semesters. Those who have passed Plus-Two can apply.

2. MA English Language and Literature. The two-year course consists of four semesters. Graduates can apply. They must have studied English at university level.

3, MA Malayalam Language and Literature. Two years and four semesters. Graduates are eligible to apply for this course.

There are no minimum grades criteria for applying. Each semester would last 18 weeks. 30 hours of learning are required to obtain a credit score.

Costs
BA: Rs 3,830 for the first semester and Rs 2,760 for the following semesters. A total of Rs 17,630 for three years.
MA: Rs 4,570 for the first semester and Rs 3,400 for the following semesters. The total charge would be
i.e. Rs 14,770 for two years.
BCom: The total fee for this course is Rs 23,630.
BBA/BCA: The total fee is Rs 27,230.
MCom: The fee for this course is Rs 18,770.

Apart from these amounts, students have to pay Rs 350 as a recognition fee. There are guidelines regarding the relaxation of fees for applicants from Scheduled Castes/Tribes and those from other eligible categories.

The fee would be refunded if the application is rejected.

Application, payment of fees
Applications can be submitted online in accordance with the instructions on the website. (Website: www.sgou.ac.in)

Fees must also be paid online.

Click on the “Apply for Admission” link to view the admission criteria. The printed copy of the online application must be sent to the regional center. The certificate of completion could be generated online after submitting the application. The date of verification of the certificate at the regional center would be indicated in this certificate.

Certificates, printed copy of application, fee receipt, original and copies of Aadhaar or any other ID card and original transfer certificate should be presented. The documents would not be kept in the office. If the verification of the documents is satisfactory, the admission card signed by the regional director will be given to the candidate.

MCom: Those with a BCom/BBA/BBM or equivalent courses can apply.

Online library, audio-visual study materials
The open university would follow blended learning which combines various types of learning methods. The self-study material would be sent to the students. Audiovisual learning materials prepared using state-of-the-art technology and an online library are some of the unique features.

Students can interact with advisors and use the learning centers library. The learning materials facilitate self-study and assessment.

30% points would be awarded for continuous assessment including assignments, projects and internal exams. In the annual exam which carries marks of 70%, the subjects of two semesters would be covered.

Scoring would be based on a 10-point scale for degree courses and a 5-point scale for PG courses. Scholarships would be awarded to students who excel.

Those who already have a job can also gain admission to the courses. Degrees/certificates issued by this university would be equivalent to certificates issued by other UGC-approved universities.

There are no learning centers outside India for SGOU. Those who are qualified in three-year degree programs would not be admitted to undergraduate programs. Students cannot change their main course of study.
