CCCF Scholarship in Honor of Alvin Watkins Jr.
Student members of the Congregational Church of Christian Fellowship (CCCF) will receive tuition assistance through the Alvin A. Watkins, Jr. Scholarship.
Chris Watkins created the memorial fund in his father’s name for the youth of his church. The first recipient is Randall Lindsey, an extraordinary student pursuing a degree in vocal arts at the Mannes School of Music in New York.
“I discovered my love of music at CCCF by listening to the melodious voices of the Sanctuary Choir. Since my pre-teen years as a member of the choir, I have had the privilege of sitting among trained voices. Receive invaluable lessons in the euphoric, rhythmic, and spiritual elements of African American worship music. This tremendous opportunity will forever shape my sensitivity and respect for our music,” says Randall.
She will study with Vladimir Chernov and Olga Toporkova at the International Vocal Artists Academy in Payerbach, Austria in the summer of 2022.
According to CCCF pastor James K. McKnight, Alvin loved music of all kinds, so it’s no surprise that the first recipient was Randall, whom he knew and supported and saw her grow into a lovely, kind young wife.
“Randall overcame many physical obstacles and was an outstanding college student with the choice to attend any college. Alvin would no doubt be as proud as everyone at CCCF,” McKnight added.
CCCF scholarships are awarded to members who are full-time undergraduate students based on academic merit as determined by the church’s Mae Muse Scholarship Committee. Funds are unlimited and can be used for tuition, living expenses, books, and other items students need to fill the student aid funding gap.
