Driver escapes attempted hijacking near University Square Target

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – A man from South Euclid was able to escape after an armed suspect attempted to hijack his vehicle at University Square Mall on Cedar Road, police said.

The 28-year-old victim told police he left Target around 7:30 a.m. and was sitting in his moving vehicle texting when a dark vehicle pulled up next to him on the side of the driver. A man armed with a black semi-automatic handgun with a green laser exited the vehicle and pointed it at the victim, police said.

The suspect opened the door of the victim’s car and asked for the keys, police said. The victim pushed the gun back, causing the suspect to back up. The victim closed his car door and rushed off, police said.

The suspect is said to be in his twenties and wearing a black hoodie and black pants. Two other men were in the suspect vehicle, but the victim could not give a description, police said.

The police are still looking for the suspects. Anyone with any information can contact detectives at 216-932-8799.
