Field hockey announces 2022 schedule

BOSTON – The Boston University field hockey program has announced its schedule for the 2022 season, as head coach Sally Star and the Terriers will once again face a tough array of opponents while competing for a Patriot League title.

After a trio of tangled games, the 2022 season will officially begin Friday, August 26, when the Terriers host Providence.

New Balance Field, the home of BU field hockey, has undergone extensive renovations since the spring, including a redesign of the field basement and lobby. The new surface of the facility will be A12 AstroTurf. Due to supply chain delays, the completion date will likely be in the fall. Therefore, all home contests must take place at Harvard or Boston College.

If the renovations are complete at any time during the season, the rest of the home games will return to New Balance Field.

The Terriers’ Patriot League slate includes road contests against the defending American champion (Oct. 1), Lafayette (Oct. 15) and Bucknell (Oct. 29). The conference schedule kicks off September 17 when BU hosts Lehigh. The Terriers will also have home games against Holy Cross (September 24) and Colgate (October 8).

The Terriers will face four qualified teams for the 2021 NCAA Tournament, starting with a trip to Iowa on Labor Day weekend to face the Hawkeyes (September 2). BU will also face Saint Louis the next day in a neutral site contest.

In addition to the season opener against Providence, BU’s non-conference home opponents are Vermont (Sept. 11) and defending America East champion Maine (Oct. 18).

BU will also visit five regional rivals, starting with the road opener in New Hampshire on August 28. The Terriers will travel to UMass Lowell on September 9 and will also make trips to Massachusetts (September 19), Harvard (September 25) and Boston College (October 23). A home game against Northeastern is scheduled for October 9 at a venue to be determined.

The top four teams in the Patriot League standings will meet at the top seed’s campus for the league tournament Nov. 3-5.
