Harford Community College Announces First Success Journey Scholarship Recipient – Baltimore Sun

Harford Community College has announced that Dakota Smith, a June graduate of Joppatotone High School, is the first recipient of the Success Journey Scholarship.

“As soon as I heard about the Success Journey Scholarship opportunity, I immediately thought of Dakota and that he should apply,” said Joppatowne High School Counselor Nicole Venters. “Dakota meets all the requirements of the scholarship criteria and is a student focused on his educational journey.”

The new scholarship, with an annual award of $2,000, is awarded to an HCC student enrolled full-time with more than 12 credits, having at least a cumulative GPA of 2.50, residing in Harford County, recent graduate of a Harford County Public High School and is in financial need.

Smith will attend Harford in the fall and study business with the educational goal of becoming a CPA. Success Journey Show hosts Marlon Madden and Ricky Venters recently caught up with Smith and his mother at HCC. They would like to serve as mentors to Smith as he progresses through his educational journey.

“Often the last hurdle Harford students face when they want to pursue higher education is financial,” said Denise Dregier, executive director of the Harford Community College Foundation. “We so appreciate generous donors like Marlon and Ricky who establish a scholarship. That they also offer their time as a mentor to one of our students is more than generous. »

Harford Community College offers more than 90 affordable degree and certificate programs, as well as a variety of non-credit community education and workforce development courses. HCC’s fall semester begins August 22.
