The Certified Financial Planner Council Financial Planning Center says he’s associated with NFP Corp. registered investment adviser subsidiary Wealthspire Advisors on a new initiative “to advance a more diverse financial planning profession”.

The Wealthspire Advisors CFP Certification Diversity Scholarship will provide scholarships of up to $5,000 to CFP certification candidates from “populations that are underrepresented in the profession” in terms of gender, race, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation or veteran status, according to CFP Planche.

The scholarship will be available to students in programs registered with the CFP Board at the undergraduate and certificate levels, the organization says. Students must demonstrate financial need.

The deadline for submitting applications is September 30, says the CFP Board, which did not specify the number of scholarships to be awarded.

The Wealthspire-CFP Board scholarship mimics the one announced earlier this month, in partnership with the CFP Board and Wealth of the mission. The new scholarship follows the CFP Board’s and Wealthspire’s inaugural joint program announced in November 2021, in which the RIA sponsored that year’s Virtual Diversity Summit and Career Fair, according to the CFP Board.

“Since our origins nearly three decades ago, Wealthspire Advisors has strived to foster the financial well-being of people from all walks of life,” Mike La Mena, CEO of Wealthspire Advisors, said in the announcement. “With this new scholarship, we aim to further enhance the talent pool within the financial planning profession and nurture more diverse professionals as they pursue CFP certification. This is just the beginning of a productive and powerful collaboration with the CFP Board.”
