Nineteen earn All-Big 12 academic honors

MORGANTOWN, W. Va. –Nineteen members of the West Virginia University track and field team have been named to the 2021 All-Big 12 Academic Track and Field Team, as announced by the conference on Tuesday.

There were 36 women across the conference who earned the honor with a 4.00 grade point average (GPA), including three mountain climbers. Junior red shirt Malina Mitchell (sport and exercise psychology), senior redshirt McKenna Smith (occupational therapy) and senior Sada Wright (public health) represented WVU in the first team with 4.0 GPA.

Junior Katelyn Caccamo (exercise psychology), senior Tessa Constantine (management), second year Lynsie Curtis (finance), junior redshirt Amber Dombrowski (exercise psychology), senior Catherine Dowie (exercise psychology), senior redshirt Ellie Gardner (mechanical and aerospace engineering), senior Samantha Hatcher (nursing), second year Jo Lauren Keane (marketing), higher Peyton Kukura (elementary education), freshman in red shirt Ceili McCabe (sports and adventure media), senior Peter Gay McKenzie (nursing), second year Abigale Mullings (psychology), higher Myesha Nott (biomedical laboratory diagnostics), second year redshirt Sarah Escalier (finance), higher Mikenna Vanderheyden (psychology) and second year Cassandra Williamson (nursing) also earned first-team accolade.

A total of 435 male and female student-athletes from the conference earned the honor this year, including 202 women and 144 men. The women’s first team consisted of 185 members, while there were 17 winners in the second team.

First team members are those who have maintained a GPA of 3.20 or better while second team selections hold a GPA of 3.00 to 3.19. To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a GPA of 3.00 or higher either cumulatively or the previous two semesters. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible during their first year of residence hall.
