Two tigers win events to end the weekend

COLUMBIA, Mo. –The University of Missouri Athletics wrapped up a busy weekend of competition at the Drake Relays and the Rock Chalk Invitational on Saturday.


Atina Kamasi (Novi Sad, Serbia) won the women’s javelin with a throw of 45.34 (148-9). All four Tigers who participated in this event placed in the top seven.

Quentin Worley (Riverside, Mo.) won the men’s 1,500 with a time of 3:56.13, beating his previous personal best by more than a second.

The Tigers had a solid showing in the rest of the on-field trials. Mitchell Weber (St. Clair, Minnesota) and Rece Rowan (Colorado Springs, Colorado) placed second and third in the men’s discus with throws of 54.17m (177-8) and 53.19m (174-6), respectively. Emilie Stauffer (Reinholds, Penn.) placed second in the women’s shot put with a mark of 15.39m (50-6). Sydney Oberdiek (Platte City, Mo.) also placed second in the women’s hammer throw with a mark of 60.93m (199-11).

In the evening, Royce Fisher (Grain Valley, Mo.) placed second in the men’s 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 9:14.84. This performance improved his personal best by almost four seconds. Ginger murniek (Lee’s Summit, Mo.) wrapped up the competition for the Tigers with a second-place finish in the women’s 5,000m. She finished with a time of 17:16.15.


The Tigers will take a week off before heading to the SEC Outdoor Championships in Oxford, Miss., Thursday, May 12 through Saturday, May 14.
