BATON ROUGE, La (BRPROUD) – The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges recently reaffirmed accreditation for Southern University and A&M College for the next 10 years.
The accreditation body announced the decision at its annual meeting on December 4.
“This 10-year review provides for continued accreditation of Southern for the next decade and is a testament to the diligence of many members of the Southern University higher education community,” said Ray L. Belton, Chancellor of Southern University and of A&M College and president of Southern University. University system. “It is in accordance with this affirmation of our institution that I take this opportunity to thank the many students, professors, staff members and members of the community for their support and contributions that they have individually invested in the realization of this feat. Southern University has truly benefited from their service and selfless commitment.
As part of the reaffirmation process, institutions are required to submit a compliance report and a student learning quality improvement plan.
The southern plan, “JAGS: Browse for greater successFocuses on improving student retention through intervention during the first year undergraduate student experience. It incorporates planned revisions of the program into bridging courses in three selected disciplines and a more coordinated academic enrichment effort in support of first-year students.
Southern, the flagship of the Southern University System – the country’s only historically black college and university system – is set for its next reaffirmation of accreditation in 2030.
