Veres and Stinchcomb headline Tigers first-round effort at Valspar Augusta Invitational

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The University of Memphis women’s golf team began competition at the Valspar Augusta Invitational on Saturday, finishing the first round in 12and place in the 16-team event with a score of 318 (+30). South Carolina, ranked No. 4, leads Forest Hills Golf Club with a total of 301 (+13).


• Youth Brooke Veres and freshman Katie Stinchcomb led the way for the Tigers on Saturday, with each of the rounds carding 79 (+7) tied for 36and place after 18 windy holes in Augusta.
• First-year student Leah Dawson and fifth year Julia Matzat are tied 49and place with scores of 80 (+8).
• Completing Memphis’ effort on Saturday was junior victoria englandwho sits tied for 80and with a total of 85 (+13).

• The tournament was shortened from 54 holes to 36 holes due to high winds.
• The Valspar Augusta Invitational marks Dawson’s first tournament for Memphis. The freshman played the Lady Red Wolves Classic as an individual on October 11-12, 2021.
